Project update: Flowerdale
Our clients, Lyn and Tony, built their ‘weekender’ in beautiful Flowerdale some 20 years ago – as a prefabricated home that was delivered by semitrailer in tow pieces and put together on high timber posts.
The property miraculously survived the ‘Black Saturday’ fires that destroyed their neighbours.
It was always their intention to ‘fill in’ the undercroft, and create their dream retirement home.
BY Projects were set the task of creating a self-contained ‘summer’ residence underneath the existing home that integrates well with the existing structure, creates some intimate spaces that take advantage of the magnificent views, and meets all the new BUSH FIRE ZONES building requirements, manages water collection and other complexities.
The proposed works are simple in form and create a spectacular change to the somewhat ordinary house.
Planning permits were relatively easy to achieve from council, and construction commenced in July.
So once a week I take an early morning drive to Flowerdale, accompanied by spectacular views, with the mist rising out of the Valley on a crisp cool morning.
Our Builder, Ashley Buller of Buller Builds, is diligent and meticulous in his work and we look forward to having the works completed later this year, so our clients can enjoy their summer space in time for the holiday season.
Lyn and Tony came to BY Projects as a referral early in 2016.
We have worked with them through all stages of architectural service, from schematic design, setting achievable building budgets, through design development and obtaining planning permits from the Shire council.
Preparing contract documentation, coordinating structure and septic permits.
And now administrating contracts through construct.
This week I have been working closely with Lyn on final selections of bathroom and kitchen fittings, including final colour choices.
BY Projects looks forward to having Lyn and Tony back in their home.
