The property was a typical 1990s apartment in West Melbourne characterized by dated finishes, an inefficient layout, and systemic thermal discomfort. While the shell offered generous glazing and urban connectivity, the fragmented internal zoning left the primary living areas feeling cramped, dark, and underutilized. The brief required a comprehensive spatial overhaul to optimize everyday functionality while substantially reducing operational energy use, all bound within a fixed multi-residential structural envelope.
A strategy of “Textural Continuity.” Partnering with Masterpiece Cabinetry, we completely reconfigured the kitchen and living axis, replacing blocky partition walls with a flowing architectural layout. Custom-curved timber joinery was introduced to wrap the central services, guiding circulation while maximizing concealed storage. To future-proof the home’s climate control, high-specification double glazing was seamlessly retrofitted. The result is an award-nominated urban sanctuary that bridges aesthetic sophistication with rigorous environmental performance.
